Hi, friends! Remember me? Remember when I was like, “I’m gonna launch a newsletter and it’s gonna be amazing!”? Hahahaha, those were the days.
I have been writing! A lot, actually. But honestly, it has been real hard balancing freelance work that pays me money with a passion project that pays me, well, nothing. I hope to remedy that in the New Year.
But before 2019 goes away, I did want to check in to say, “Hi! I think you’re great! Thank you for reading the things I write and supporting me over the past year!” and also share a few things I wrote for other outlets over the past few weeks that I’ve really enjoyed writing.
First, here is an essay about how my dog because he is just the very best dog:
How Getting a Dog Helped Me Feel at Home in a New City
"I felt lonely and stuck in a place that felt nothing like home. A wiggly, ill-behaved beagle changed everything."
I also finally (and shamelessly) came clean about loving Lifetime Christmas movies. I published this on Medium (is Medium still a thing worth publishing on???) but this is a friend link so you can read it with or without a subscription.
Lifetime’s Christmas Movies Are Absurd. That’s Why I Love Them.
“I prefer an nonthreatening Christmas carol-themed adventure with one of the Mowry sisters over having my heart torn out by James Stewart and Donna Reed any day of the year.”
And if you are looking to do some holiday baking, I recently convinced four fantastic Nashville bakers and pastry chefs to share their favorite holiday cookie recipes for the Nashville Scene. Corn flakes! Coffee! Cherries! Rum! Roasted sugar!
Baking Christmas
“Preheat your ovens. Your search for the perfect holiday cookie plate starts and ends here.”
Seriously, despite being completely MIA for, oh, MONTHS, thank you for signing up for this newsletter and supporting me on social media and reading the words I write. It means the world to me. This adventure in freelancing has been bumpy, but it has also been super rewarding and I can’t wait to fill this space with goodness in the New Year. (OK, I can wait a little bit, actually. A couple weeks, in fact. I’m kind of tired.)
❤️
